Whilst walking along the Gurnick on a warm summer evening in Mousehole I came upon a mum with two children reading the 'Stop the Marina campaign leaflet displayed in a window:- 'What are you reading mummy?' said one of the children. 'They want to build a marina with lots of houses between here and Newlyn. If they do, that it will spoil our holidays here and we will have to go somewhere else.'
This is precisely why I support the Stop the Marina Campaign because I think we are preserving exactly what people travel to Penwith and Mounts Bay for year after year after year.
The proposed development is tacky, expensive, non-Cornish and will turn the area into nothing more than a clone of so many other developments around the UK.
Having observed development in the South-East of England - they do not provide jobs for the local community; developers bring in their own workforce, usually of Eastern Europeans as they provide cheap labour.
Mounts Bay is remarkable as ununspoilt bay with no high rise or offensive development. The current proposals would fundamentally change the bay and country side. What is proposed would be so radically out of sympathy with the existing area and scene as to be very damaging. It must not go ahead. My wife and I have had a home in Mousehole for 20 years , to which we plan to retire next year. This could spoil our new home and dreams.
Good professional site, shows potential developers that there is a solid wall of well organised opposition against their schemes, while still showing that we support viable alternative schemes, that are appropriate and sympathetic to West Penwith, its people and its Industries.
I am a Penzance man, now living in Nottingham, and I was totally appalled to hear of the proposals for the Marina and the Seafood Park. I was born on Alverton Estate, my mother comes from Newlyn, and I know from my years living in West Cornwall how valuable these green places are, both for wildlife and humans seeking some all to rare peace and quiet.
My wife and I would like to wish you all the best for your campaign.
If there is a petition we can sign, letter of support to write etc. please let us know. Kevin and Sarah Marston.
Keep up the good work. Will spread the word!
there are many reasons to stop what they propose to do to our beautiful home, apart from destroying the incredible wildlife& breatytaking countryside(and isnt that why tourists flock to see us every year?)i do not see how local people will benefit from this,as always it will just line the pockets of the ones that dont give a dam about newlyn&surrounding area.the fishermen &locals i have spoken to are all against the ideas & arnt they the ones that count? they are newlyn!! more housing will just bring in moor outsiders that want to turn us into where they have moved from (never did see the sence in that one!)it wont be affordable housing for locals& it will be ugly &modern &will just make us the same as everywhere else it will take away newlyns soul.as for the fish market do we need it?the fishermen dont seem to think so &surly they should know! the marina!dont even get me started ive gone on enough but this iscornwall not the south of france! remember den heb tavas a gollas y dyr!!!
Congratulations - what a wonderful site - keep up the good work
Having spent my summer holiday in Mousehole last year. I was shocked and disgusted to find out that proposals have been put forward to turn the Penlee quarry into a "water pit stop come race track " its bad enough with the amount of cars around the area let alone more cars and their yachts, speed boats and jetskis. They must not succeed.
In my view this development cannot be justified on sustainability criteria. It is outragous also that a developer can in theory force this through against the wishes of local people , which highlights the undemocratic nature of the planning legislation produced by central government.
I am appalled to read about the proposed development and wholeheartedly support your campaign. Congratulations on an excellent website.
