Our campaign started almost as soon as we formed in May 2005. We held an informal public meeting in The Tolcarne Inn in June and a dozen or so volunteers stepped forward to form a committee. This committee of dedicated protesters still form the nucleus of the group but you are welcome to to step forward if you want to join in also; there is always something you could help with. We could really do with another telephone contact for Newlyn for instance, and other local contacts for Drift, Lamorna and St Buryan. If you have any special skills: fund raising experience, graphics, journalistic, computer etc, please step forward. We hold regular committee meetings once, or sometimes, twice a month.

Please use the Contact page to get in touch if you want to add your name to our growing list of general supporters. You'll receive regular bulletins and news updates by email. We are gearing up for a major letter/email writing offensive the moment the first planning application is made. We'll advise you of the best tactics to use for this; every single letter makes a difference.

We will also be holding a big public meeting and presentation - details to be announced in due course.

If you can help with raising awarenesss by delivering leaflets, displaying posters or sticking stickers, please request these, also via the contact page or telephone.

If you have any useful info or juicy gossip that does not yet show in these pages, please share it with us (in total confidence).

Donations: If you can make a donation (no matter how small), it would really help. Although our expenses are quite reasonable at the moment, we will need additional funds to help with further postage and photocopying as the group swells and the campaign really takes off. See the Donations page for our bank account details.

We are currently formulating a strategy for a post-planning application 'major offensive'. There will be a mass letter writing campaign, direct action, awareness-raising and fund-raising.

A Call to Arms From Mousehole

by Sybil Collins

Dear People of Mousehole and Paul Villages,

Penlee Quarry Marina & How it would change our lives.

We are writing to you to ask you to support us in our fight to save what is precious to us all. Cornwall is unique in its atmosphere of "Old World Charm", a magical feeling all of its own.

Edward Iliffe of Marine Developments Ltd., (M.D.L.) and his associates do not understand that, by building a Marina and another village between Mousehole and Paul, they would destroy our way of life forever.

They would take away our peacefulness; the beauty all around us and, in its place would create a brash, ugly complex that would give us years of inconvenience, noise, dust and disruption and even more traffic problems to add to our already busy lanes.

Our much overstretched facilities like West Cornwall Hospital would have many more people to treat as would our medical and dental practitioners amongst many others. Our emergency and rescue services would be stretched beyond their capabilities but most important to us in Mousehole and Paul would be the loss of our special peace and much of our natural heritage forever.

Of course you must add to all this the fact that we will lose the tourists who come to stay with us and enjoy our lovely village life, because the lifting-bridge and the chaos of the building and blasting, and the noise and disruption is hardly an invitation is it? The people who love to walk along the road to Newlyn from Mousehole will be deprived of this pleasure, because would you want to walk anywhere near a place that was being torn apart?

If you value what we have, please help us to fight for it because if we do not join together we will lose this battle.

Nothing can replace the way we live in Mousehole and Paul villages and no ugly development, however many promises are made could ever make up for what WE would lose!

Cornwall is special and each person in Mousehole and Paul is special too!

Edward Iliffe and his associates’ goal in life is to make huge amounts of money. He does not care if, in so doing, he changes our beautiful corner of West Cornwall into a brash, noisy place that caters for those who do not understand that beauty and tranquility arc more important than our world being taken over by people who enjoy Power Boats and Jet Skis, not just Marina Craft. Believe us, all this would follow!  Imagine the noise as they roared across our beautiful Mounts Bay.

We who live here would never live our lives again as we do now.

How can you help us? First please write to Penwith District Council Planning Department objecting to this scheme and also write to Mr. Edward Iliffe. Second, tell your friends what will happen it we do not join together to fight this Development. Third when we have our Public Meeting please come along and support us. We will give you the TRUE facts and figures.

This is YOUR home not theirs and together we are strong.

Some things in life we cannot change whatever we do but the Penlee Manna Scheme can he stopped if enough people object.

It’s up to you good people of Mousehole and Paul. We can win if enough of us show our strength of feeling and have the spirit of TRELAWNEY '.
