File Downloads Penzance Harbour Users' Association:
Cornwall Wildlife Trust's In early 2006, MDL Developments Ltd applied to Cornwall County Council to recommence large-scale quarrying operations at Penlee, this permission was regretably granted on 31st January 2007 by a very narrow margin. View the minutes of the meeting in which this permission was passed: click here (MS Word 67kb) These were our recommendations to help stop them: Here are MDL's initial submissions to Cornwall County Council (in abridged MS Word format) to support the application: Introduction (52.1kb)
Access (85.5kb) Geo-Conservation (886kb) Noise Dust Blasting Plant & Visual Impacts (442kb) Please Note: these four files have been OCR-scanned from the original report but, to reduce file size, do not include the maps and illustrations. We apologise if there are any typographical errors arrising from the transcription process.

'The
Assessment of the Potential Contribution of Marinas & Watersports
to Increasing Prosperity in Cornwall' - a report by Ove & Partners
for Cornwall Enterprise - 2001 See page 120 - It
show that Penzance is the favoured location for a marina and that
several marina operators had previously considered the potential of
Penlee Quarry as a marina and didn't touch it with a barge pole due to
'access problems'. MDL have therefore got more money than sense. 'Technical And
Strategic Assessment of Current Aggregate Reserves and Potential Use of
Secondary & Recycled Aggregates in the South West Region' A
study by Capita Symonds Ltd, April 2005' click here to download (pdf, 306kb) Sounds really boring
doesn't it? Read section A19, A20, A21 and A24 - It proves Penlee has no
commercial potential as a working quarry and the developers could get
as much stone as they want, and more cheaply, from elsewhere if they
really wanted to. We should be able to hang them with this one! ODPM - 'The Role of Imports to UK Aggregates Supply click here (pdf 214kb)
